The funeral of Baron Edmond de Rothschild, which will take place tomorrow morning, will be strictly private and attendance will be restricted to members of the family and close friends, it was announced here today.
In accordance with the wishes of the family, there will be no flowers and no speeches, except for the funeral sermon.
Burial will be in the family sepulchre in the Pere Lachaise Cemetery. No delegations will be permitted, despite the urgent request of leading Jewish organizations.
Jewish groups in every section of the world sent thousands of messages of condolence to the Rothschild family. In Palestine, where the Baron spent millions of dollars for the Jewish colonies there will be a complete cessation of all work during the time of the funeral in Paris.
French newspapers were unanimous in their praise of the Baron, whose life and work were extolled in glowing terms.
Le Journal called him “the world’s foremost figure in the last sixty years.”
Le Matin termed him “an ardent patriot.”
Le Jour devoted a column to a description of his work in the upbuilding of Palestine, declaring that “it was his great aspiration to rebuild the kingdom of Jerusalem.”
