President Truman this afternoon sent the following message to Israeli President Weizmann in New York:
“On the first anniversary of the independence of Israel, it gives me great pleasure to convey to your Excellency and to the people of Israel. the hearty congratulations and sincere good wishes of the people of the United States.” In a message replying to President Truman, Dr. Weizmann said: “Your message of greetings and congratulations on the occasion of the first anniversary of the independence of Israel is most warmly and gratefully appreciated. The people of Israel will never forget the part played by your great country as well as your own personal sympathy and helpful attitude at all times in the achievement of their national independence.
