Trygve Lie, Secretary-General of the United Nations, rated the Palestine case as the “number one” achievement of the world organization’s peace efforts in 1949. In his annual report to the General Assembly Trygve Lie also called for a high priority for the Middle East in the U.N. program of technical assistance to underdeveloped countries. He stressed the importance of such water development projects as the Jordan Valley Plan.
