The sudden and brutal deportation of German Jewish refugees from Tunis will no doubt provoke more than one protest, not only because of the inhuman treatment of the deportees, but also because of the fact that they were ordered to leave within twenty-four hours, despite their having resided in Tunis peacefully for over a year.

The deported Jewish families are all professionals. Most of them are physicians. The fact that both Moslems and Jews in Tunis have protested against the deportation of these Jewish refugees shows that they were an asset to the country.

Not only the Jews but every person interested in protecting human rights will therefore be curious to learn why these Jewish families from Germany were suddenly ordered to leave Tunis.

The French government must look into the situation in Tunis if it does not wish it to develop into a second Algerian affair. The French administration in Tunis must be checked in its anti-Jewish activities before it is too late.
