An open letter to Premier Eduard Herriot of France, as the head of the government in Tunisia, calling upon him to come to the defense of the Jewish people and prevent further excesses, is published by the “Reveil Juif,” Tunisian Jewish paper.

The paper appeals to Premier Herriot, as a frequent sympathizer with the Jewish people, and refers to the disturbances recurrent recently in Tunisia, frequently assuming serious form.

The paper complains that the French authorities, particularly the French Resident, General Manceron, are displaying no haste in efforts to prevent outbreaks against the Jews by the Arabs.

Tunisia, says the paper pointedly, is a French protectorate and not a German one, and the protection of the lives of the Jews is therefore awaited.
