The Grand Rabbinate of Turkey was informed today that new government regulations provide that each synagogue in the country shall be governed by an elected council. In some cases at present, one community council may have jurisdiction over several synagogues. For such synagogues the government has ordered elections in January so that each may have its own responsible governing body.
Meanwhile, the Grand Rabbinate has decided to build a new home for the aged in this city at an estimated cost of $250, 000 to replace the present tiny institution which is now located in the slum and houses only needy aged Jews. The new structure, whose construction will be delayed until funds can be raised, will house aged Jews of all income levels.
