A transport of 500 displaced Jews from Austria is expected to arrive here soon, it was reported here today. The Jewish refugees will be permitted to remain in Turkey and will be given employment in industrial enterprises. This is the first time that a group of displaced Jews has been admitted to Turkey for settlement.
More than 2,000 Jews emigrated last month from Turkey, it was reported here today. About 800 of them were residents of Istanbul and 700 have been living in Izmir. The effect of this mass emigration of Jews from the country is felt particularly in small communities which contain between 500 and 1,000 Jews.
