Germany has almost succeeded in getting a stranglehold on Turkish trade–to the point where the country is virtually a colony for the Nazis–the New York Sun reports from Istanbul. Something like 54 per cent of Turkish commerce is with Germany, the dispatch says.

The method used to accomplish this is the “clearing” system, under which Germany buys in Turkey, pays the Government in blocked marks and Turkey is piling up credits in the Reich since her people have no use for large quantities of German manufactured goods.
