Turkish Jewish Editor Replies to Criticism of Louis Marshall

The criticism of Louis Marshall, president of the American Jewish Committee, leveled against Turkish Jewish leaders is renouncing the minority rights guaranteed to them under the Treaty of Lausanne, continues to hold the attention of Jewish public opinion here.

David Fresco, editor of “El Tempo,” published an editorial in his paper in apply to Mr. Marshall.

“Mr. Marshall is one of the most inessential Jews in America, and it is rally disconcerting that he should level such an insult against Turkish Jewry,” be editorial states. “His statement accusing a great community like ours of cowardice and declaring it as meriting desecration, without having examined ### real position, dumbfounds us. We assure Mr. Marshall that our decision was the only one possible in accordance with the dictates of wisdom and loyalty,” the editorial states.
