Elections of members of the Jewish Communal Councils in various areas of Istanbul were held today. All Jewish males over the age of 21, who have paid the “Kizbah,” the community tax, to the Grand Rabbinate, were eligible to vote. The results of the elections will be made known within a few days.
The Communal Councils deal with matters of synagogue administration, Jewish burial and cemeteries, social and charitable institutions, and communal assets in the form of land and buildings.
