Husseyin Djahid Yaltchin, Turkish member of the U.N. Palestine Conciliation Commission, declared today that “the Turkish Government is sure of being successful in the task of conciliation which it has accepted. We will try to satisfy both parties in the spirit of justice,” he added,Yaltchin leaves for Geneva today to take part in the first meeting of the Commission next Monday.
Emphasizing that Turkey’s position in the Palestine dispute “will be definitely neutral,” Yaltchin denied a British Broadcasting Corporation report that he would support the Arab cause. The Turkish delegate also voiced the opinion that once the work of the Conciliation Commission is at an end, Turkey will “have neighborly relations” with Israel.
Earlier in the week, Emin Fouad Bey, Egyptian Ambassador to Turkey, stated at a press conference that the appointment of Turkey as a member of the Conciliation Commission “strengthens the hope for a peaceful settlement” of the Palestine question. He added that Yaltchin’s nomination was hailed in Egypt.
