Important sections of the Turkish press disagree with Fawzi el Jemali, former Iraqi Foreign Minister, who, while here as an official guest of the Turkish Government, attacked Israel as the “entrance gate for Communism in the Middle East.”

A typical reaction was that of the influential newspaper “Dunya” which stated: We disagree with Jemali when he says that Israel is a threat to the Middle East. On the contrary, Israel is the most natural ally of the West in this area. It is the stronghold, the bridgehead, of civilization.” Referring to the present situation in Syria, which it sees as “a danger,” the editorial asked that Moslems, Christians and Jews “get together in fighting the Communist plan to dominate the Middle East.”
