An appeal to the state-controlled radio network to end the practice of making Jews and other minorities in Turkey the butt of jokes in plays and other programs was published today in the newspaper Gece Postasi. The newspaper charged that the programs were of low quality and “hurt the feelings” of national groups.
Comedians on the Turkish radio have had a field day with “Jewish accented” dialogue in Turkish. One popular comedian has built up a national reputation for a character known as “Salamon ” who is portrayed as stingy and cowardly.
