The Twenty-Fifth Anniversary of the establishment during the last war of the Palestine Jewish Legion is to be commemorated at a public meeting which is to take place in Town Hall, New York, on Thursday, June 4, under the auspices of the American Emergency Committee for Zionist Affairs and the American Palestine Jewish Legion.
Among the speakers will be David Ben-Gurion, chairman of the Executive of the Jewish Agency, Pierre van Paassen, Frank Gannett, editor of the Gannett newspapers, and Major Redgrave on behalf of the British War Veterans. The Legion was recruited primarily from Jews of America, and comprised the 38th, 39th and 40th Battalions of the British Royal Fusiliers, later officially designated the Judeans. It was the first specifically Jewish force to be organized since the days of ancient Rome.
