A tall stone column surmounted by a Mogen David, and a twin column with a cross on top are being erected at the Dachau concentration camp to mark the mass graves of the thousands of persons who were killed there, it was reported here today.
The monuments, including a quarter of a mile of stone steps which will lead up to them, will cost about $50,000 to be drawn from German funds. About 150 German civilians are working on the project, the report said, and stones are being taken from the Nurenberg Stadium in which the Nazis used to stage their monster rallies.
Another report from Germany reveals that the Bremen Philharmonic Orchestra has resumed functioning, after being given specific instructions by Allied occupation officers that works of Mendelsohn, Offenbach and other Jewish composers barred by the Nazis must be included in its reportoire.
