Dr. Gerson Berger, president of the Zionist Organization of Rio de Janeiro, and another Jew, Francisco Silbert, have been elected to the legislature of the State of Guanabara, according to final balloting tabulations completed here today. Rio de Janeiro is in Guanabara.

The complete national election results show that the pro-Nazi Integralista Party polled only 26, 000 votes in the entire country, and failed to elect any candidates to the national Legislature.

The Federation of Brazilian Jewish Communities today formally congratulated the newly chosen President, Janio Quadros, upon his election. Senor Quadros was accused by Communists, during the bitter election campaign, of being anti Semitic. He rejected the accusations, backing it up with announcements that he would continue Brazil’s traditional friendly policy toward Israel. The outgoing President, Juscelino Kubitschek, has announced that he plans to visit Israel soon after he leaves office.
