Two men went on trial before a military court at the Sarafand army camp here today on charges of membership in an illegal terrorist underground organization. Previously, 13 men and women were sentenced to from one to 12 years in prison following their conviction as members of the secret organization.
The two men, Zeev Yevin, 27, and Reuven Peretz, 23, made statements refusing to recognize the jurisdiction of the military court and demanding trial in a civilian court. The court refused to accept their demand and the two defendants announced their “non-participation” in the trial. The court will appoint counsel for them.
Yevin, son of the writer and historian Yehoshua Yevin, told the court he had been reared to believe in a “kingdom of Israel.” He advised the Israel Army to busy itself in reconquering areas of Palestine held by the Arabs.
