Two Jews who entered France without visas today received sentences of two months imprisonment, which were suspended. The two, Abraham Sonnabend and Magdalen Reichenstein, were also fined the token sum of 3,000 francs ($14) each.
It is believed here that the court’s mild sentence will set a precedent in other canes involving Jews from Eastern Europe who have entered the country illegally. It is estimated that thousands of Jews now living in France have entered the country without visas. Several hundred have already been apprehended by police officials and face trial.
