Current circulation of the Jewish Daily Forward is 71, 219 in New York and 14, 000 in Chicago, according to a survey of the foreign language press in the United States made by the Editor and Publisher, the newspaper field’s trade paper. The circulation of the Jewish Day-Morning Journal is given as 53,116 in New York and 8, 000 in Philadelphia.
The publication points out that the Yiddish press in the United States reached its high point in circulation in 1914, when 10 Yiddish dailies had a combined circulation of 762, 910, second only in the foreign-language field to the German-language dailies. The Yiddish press circulation jumped ahead of the German papers in 1919, exceeding it by as much as 200, 000, the Editor and Publisher report.
