Rabbi Herbert A. Friedman, executive vice-chairman of the United Jewish Appeal, is leaving this week for a 10-day survey of chief points in Europe where the stream of Jewish refugees from Hungary and Egypt is constantly growing.
“The most important purpose of my mission,” he said, “is to bring back to the American Jewish community a first-hand, thorough and factual account of the greatest refugee crisis since the Nazi terror and the chaos following World War II. It is hoped that this report will provide local community efforts, which support the nationwide UJA, with the basis for campaigns of the necessary scope to meet our greatest humanitarian responsibility of this decade.”
