A two-day national conference of the United Jewish Appeal will open here Saturday evening to map new fund-raising measures to assure urgent aid to projects in Israel and needy Jews in other parts of the world, About 750 Jewish leaders from all parts of the United States are expected to attend the parley.
The conference will also mark the high point of a first-phase effort this fall to attain $25, 000, 000 to fund the emergency settlement, welfare and rehabilitation activities of the UJA’s three constituent agencies, the United Israel Appeal, Joint Distribution Committee and United Service for New Americans. The final conference session on Sunday will witness the action of local leaders in presenting community checks toward this initial dollar goal.
Chief among those who will address the conference are Trygve Lie, former UN Secretary General; Rabbi Abba Hillel Silver of Cleveland; Dr. Nahum Goldmann, chairman of the Jewish Agency; Edward MM. Warburg, general chairman of the UJA; Harold J. Goldenberg, chairman of the Investment Center in Israel; and Avraham Harmon, Israel Consul General in the United States.
