The situation of Jews in North Africa and the work of the Joint Distribution Committee and allied Jewish groups in North Africa were outlined to a special meeting here attended by 17 executive directors of United Jewish Appeal campaigns in large cities of the United States. The group, which has just spent 11 days in Israel, came here during its tour of UJA-beneficiary organizations’ installations in Europe.
In Morocco, Sam Haber, JDC director for that country, told the group, the JDC is caring for 35,000 Jewish children afflicted with tuberculosis and trachoma. It also provides special feeding programs for 30,000 other children. Despite the agitation, political unrest and violence of recent months, the medical, social welfare and emigration programs continue unabated, the group was told by Jacques Dahan, secretary of the council of Jewish Communities of Morocco.
