U.K. Foreign Secretary Jack Straw told the Palestinian leadership that the creation of an independent state “was in their hands.” In the region for two days of talks in Jerusalem and Ramallah, Straw praised Israel’s planned Gaza Strip withdrawal, which he said would provide an opportunity for the Palestinians to prove they could reign in terrorists and make crucial economic reforms.
