Emphasizing that Jews in Moslem countries are being terrorized and that their situation must be dealt with immediately, Alexander Easterman, political secretary of the World Jewish Congress, today protested against postponing the discussion of the question of human rights by the U.N. Economic and Social Council now meeting here.
This delay, Easterman told a press conference, means that complaints of Jewish organizations about the mistreatment of Jews in Arab countries would not come up for discussion before the next meeting of the Economic and Social Council in February.
During the past few months, Easterman declared, hundreds of Jews have been murdered and injured in mob attacks in Egypt. “Thousands have been imprisoned there, with the connivance and sometimes approval and encouragement of the Egyptian Government,” he added. “In addition, Jewish property of great value has been confiscated by the Egyptian authorities,” All this, he said, has been kept secret by the stringent censorship regulations imposed by the Egyptian Government.
