On the last lap of its tour of the DP camps, the UNSCOP sub-committee today witnessed the dramatic departure of 400 certificate-bearing Jews from this camp for Palestine. The former camp inmates were sent off amid cheers and the singing of Hatikvah and received the best wishes of the committee members.
Brigadier A.G. Kenchington, commander of the camp, the biggest in the British zone, told the U.N. delegates that since February of this year more than 2,000 Jews from the camp have been processed for emigration, chiefly for Palestine. Kenchington informed the committee, which is preparing to leave tonight for Geneva to submit its report to UNSCOP, that 400 certificated Jews leave the camp monthly for Palestine.
