A United Nations spokesman said tonight that no communication in connection with Palestine has been received from the British Government. This was confirmed by a British source, who said that no official communication has been addressed to the U.N. pending the preliminary canvass of the various delegations by Mr. Lie to obtain their reaction to his plan to establish a fact-finding commission prior to the scheduled meeting of the General Assembly.

The British favor the proposal for such a commission, but the other delegations approached by Mr. Lie Have deferred their replies until they can contact their governments. The Secretary-General is known to have contacted most of the major delegations, including the U.S. Meanwhile, a special section in the U.N. Secretariat has been set up to pave the way for establishment of the investigating commission, if it is approved.
