The United Nations Security Council, in a 25-minute session, today rebuffed an Egyptian attempt to force the demilitarization of Jerusalem. On a recommendation by Warran Austin, Council president, consideration of the Egyptian move was “indefinitely postponed.”
Mr. Austin pointed out that there was no resolution or formal proposal before the Council and noted that the Jerusalem problem was part of a larger issue scheduled to come before the Political Committee soon. The Council president added that “there in no threat to the peace and it would do no good for the Council to discuss the matter.” Aubrey S. Eban, Israel delegate, was admitted to the meeting as a non-voting member.
