United States Ambassador Edward B Lawson handed to the Hebrew University today a check for 9,000 pounds, representing the first installment of an American aid grant of 200,000 pounds for the construction of a school of education here to be named for the late John Dewey, internationally famous American educator. The money will be made available from Israeli pounds accumulated here by the U.S. Government under its International Media Guaranty program.
Later in the day, the Ambassador was received at an extraordinary session of the Jerusalem municipality where he presented Major Gershon Agron of Jerusalem with a check for 50.000 pounds for the construction of a Bet Am, a social-cultural center. This check also came from IMG funds which accumulate from the sale of American periodicals and books to Israel.
