The United States this week-end proposed to an ad hoc committee of the Commission on Human Rights that two resolutions on the protection of minorities be returned to the Subcommission on Prevention of Discrimination and Protection of Minorities for further study and development.

The resolutions concern a definition of minorities and interim measures to be taken for their protection, which had been the object of criticism by the World Jewish Congress when they were adopted by the Subcommission in January. The American proposal suggested approval of a third Subcommission resolution requesting information on the status of minorities from member states.
