The British Ambassador and the American Charge Affaires here today called on the Israeli Foreign Ministry to discuss the latest Jordan attacks on trains in the Haifa-Tel Aviv area. Drawing their attention to the coordinated raids on trains and settlements by Jordanians, the Israeli officials said that the situation had become even tenser since these attacks.
It was revealed here today that Israel yesterday warned the Jordan authorities, through United Nations truce supervisor Gen. William E. Riley, that either Jordan brought the attacks to an end or the Israelis would take “all measures” to halt them. The Israelis had Gen. Riley inform the Arabs that they were halting train service until 5 P.M. yesterday to give the Jordan authorities an opportunity to bring the situation under control in their territory and that if any attacks were made after service was resumed, Israel would act. No other attacks were made when the trains began running again.
