President Roosevelt has issued a proclamation combining the annual Austrian immigration quota of 1,413 with the German quota of 25,957. The new German quota is 27,370, which is the sum of the former two. The proclamation, issued under the authority of the 1924 Immigration Act, does not mention Germany or Austria specifically, but merely announces new quotas for all foreign countries.
Acting Secretary of State Summer Welles declared today that an announcement would be made in “the immediate future” on the international refugee commission. The selection of the country where the commission’s first conference will be held will await the appointment of the commission.
