The Americans oppose it because they conceive it as a departure from the Assembly agenda which may interfere with completion of the schedule laid out for the Assembly.
A British delegation spokesman, at a press conference today, expressed confidence that the Anglo-Chinese resolution calling for sanctions against Israel will be approved by a Council majority. A sub-committee which has adopted the resolution will report to the Council tomorrow. It is expected that the Assembly’s Political Committee will finally turn its attention to the Palestine problem next week.
