The un-ending Federal campaign to insure fair and equal treatment for all Americans regardless of race, color and creed in the national defense program is emphasized in a pamphlet issued today by the President’s Committee on Fair Employment Practice.
The six-man committee receives and investigates complaints of discrimination against workers in defense industries and takes appropriate steps to redress valid grievances. It also recommends to Federal departments, agencies and to the President ways in which to insure the fair treatment of all Americans when it comes to defense employment.
The COFEP’s policy follows the three old program laid down by the President in his executive order of June 25. This order instructed Federal departments and agencies to eliminate completely discrimination from vocational and training programs. It ruled that all Federal defense contracts should contain clauses obligating the contractor not to practice discrimination and it gave the committee power to investigate complaints and to redress grievances.
