The State Department said today that it was “encouraged” by the progress in the negotiations between Israel and Lebanon and urged “rapid” movement toward an agreement on the removal of all foreign forces from Lebanon.
“We are encouraged by reports that the negotiations efforts have been successful and that an agenda has finally been agreed to by the negotiators,” Department spokesman John Hughes said.
“This is clearly a step forward. It is our conviction that the negotiations can and must now move quickly forward toward an agreement leading to the rapid withdrawal of all external forces” from Lebanon.
