I.D. Wolf, of the General Council for Jewish Rights of the United States, who is vacationing with his wife in Mexico, yesterday visited American Ambassador Josephus Daniels and appealed for intervention in behalf of 14 German Jewish refugees who overstayed their tourist visas and who have threatened to commit suicide if deported.
The plight of the refugees has brought offers of aid from prominent Mexicans and spurred the Jewish Refugee Committee in its efforts to have them settled on the land in the state of Veracruz. “We came here as tourists because we had no other way of saving ourselves from the Nazi hell,” said a spokesman for the refugees, most of whom had been prisoners in concentration camps. “But we came here with the intention of building a new home. And if we are expelled from. Mexico, we will all commit suicide.”
