U.S. Gives $600,000 to Egypt; No Political Significance Attached

State Department officials maintained today there was nothing politically significant in the payment by this country of $600,000 to an Egyptian rural development project.

A State Department authority said the payment covered a periodic obligation to a joint rural development fund established in 1953 by the United States and Egypt The United States then obligated itself to contribute amounts matching contributions to the tend by the Egyptian Government. The current payment is the first since the Sinai-Suez explosion.

Egypt, meanwhile, announced a sweeping new program of economic and technical assistance for Egypt as an Egyptian in military delegation that spent three weeks in the Soviet Union left for home.
