U.S. House and Senate lawmakers are planning to introduce bipartisan legislation on Tuesday aimed at restoring some of the protections that existed under the Religious Freedom Restoration Act. Like that law, which the Supreme Court struck down last year as unconstitutional, the new legislation, known as the “Religious Liberty Protection Act,” is designed to make it harder for government to interfere with the practice of religion. The measure is being sponsored by Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) in the Senate and Reps. Charles Canady (R-Fla.) and Jerrold Nadler (D-N.Y.) in the House.
