Placement of German Jewish refugees in the outlying parts of the United States was urged upon delegates to the sixth biennial convention of the National Federation of Temple Brotherhoods by Samuel B. Finkel of Boston.
The brotherhoods meeting opened today simultaneously with the thirty-four council of the Union of American Hebrew Congregations and the eleventh biennial assembly of the National Federation of Temple Sisterhoods. Opening up of wider areas of cooperation and mutual understanding, not only between Jew and Jew but between Jew and non-Jew, is under consideration by more than 1,000 delegates from all parts of the United States, Canada and the Panama Canal Zone.
Mr. Finkel urged that the German refugees be cared for outside of the Metropolitan New York areas as a matter of practical social service work. He pointed out that funds are available to transport the refugees who are eager. he said, to become self-supporting, “if only modest opportunities are made available.”
