A financial settlement in a restitution suit brought by Karl Joel, American Jewish businessman, for return of a thriving mail order business taken over by a German when Mr. Joel fled from the Nazis, has been reached here, the local restitution chamber announced today. Both parties agreed not to reveal the amount of the settlement.
Mr. Joel sued to recover a business whose assets had been dissipated after it was taken over by Josef Neckermann, Mr. Joel charged that Mr. Neckermann is now running a highly successful business in the same field which was built up on the good will of the original firm.
