The Conference of Presidents of Major Jewish Organizations, composed of 18 national Jewish groups in this country, sent a telegram to Secretary of State Dean Rusk, hailing the decision to sell defensive missiles to Israel. The message, signed by Rabbi Irving Miller, chairman of the Conference, read:
“The Government’s decision to sell to Israel short-range, defensive missiles will be welcomed by all American citizens who are concerned with peace and stability in the Middle East. It will prevent a dangerous imbalance of power resulting from the flow of arms into the Arab states, and their aggressive use against Israel.
“I pray that this constructive measure on your part will contribute toward the maintenance of peace in the Middle East and throughout the world.”
