The proclamation of Palestine as a democratic Jewish Commonwealth was demanded by 1500 spokesmen and representatives of labor organizations and Zionist groups today at a dinner tendered to mark the founding of a new agricultural colony in Palestine, named after Berl Katznelson, founder of the Palestine Federation of Labor and editor, until his death a year ago, of “Davar,” Contributions of $100,000 were received at the dinner.
A call to American labor to support Jewish demands regarding Palestine was embodied in a cabled message from Leon Blum, former Premier of France, which was read to the audience. M. Blum declared: “Today, as before, I stand four-square with the aims and aspirations of the Jewish labor movement in its struggle for the preservation of freedom and in opposition to all limitations upon the continuation of its noble work for the upbuilding of the Jewish National Rome in Palestine based upon justice and cooperation with the working classes of the Arab people and in close collaboration with the International Labor movement.”
