Leading American Jews were among the contributors to the $500,000 fund presented to the University of Heidelberg by the United States Ambassador to Germany, Jacob Gould Schurman, for the construction of a new lecture hall. The University of Heidelberg is the alma mater of Ambassador Schurman.
Paul M. Warburg, Julius Rosenwald, James Speyer, Clarence L. Dillon, Mortimer L. Schiff, Samuel Sachs. William Fox, Adolph Zukor, Nicholas M. Schenck and H. M. Warner were among the contributors. John D. Rockefeller, Jr. contributed $200,000 toward the fund. The extent of the other donations was not made public.
