Israel’s Consul General in New York. Uri Ben-Ari. called on the American Jewish community to increase its support of Israel and its people and assured American Jewry that Israel’s “continuing existence is indisputable.”
Extending Passover greetings to American Jews on behalf of the Israeli government at a press conference at the Israel Consulate. Ben-Ari said: “Let’s remember and never forget that Israel was not delivered to the Jewish people on a silver platter. We worked for it, sweated for it and fought for it.” But, Ben-Ari said, the struggle is still going on and Israel is facing numerous challenges.
“We are concerned about the lack of peace in our area and we will do everything in our power to achieve peace short of endangering the security of Israel,” Ben-Ari stated, citing also the difficulties of Israel in maintaining a military competence in the face of growing economic burdens.
Describing Israel’s efforts in developing and building the country, Ben-Ari said that Israel will strive to create a “new society.” an idea that was inspired by the creators of the State. “We are living in a time of emergency to Israel and the Jewish people and we can only depend on ourselves,” he declared.
