The State Department said today that it was keeping a close watch on the shipment of military supplies by the Soviet Union to Syria. According to news dispatches from Beirut reaching here, Syria received a complete radar system and other military supplies in the last two days from the Soviet Union. The Beirut newspaper, “L’Oriente de Jour,” reported that an Ilyushin-18 brought the equipment. The air freighter is larger than the Antonov-12 which was being used by the Soviet Union to airlift military supplies to Syria in the last three weeks.
