The creation of an Abraham Cahan chair and a department devoted exclusively to the Jewish labor movement at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, was announced today by the administrative committee of the Jewish Labor Committee.
The International Ladies Garment Workers Union, AFL; Amalgamated Clothing Workers Union, CIO; Jewish Daily Forward and Workmen’s Circle joined the Jewish Labor Committee in sponsoring the new department. The late Mr. Cahan, who died several years ago at the age of 87, had been a pioneer of the Jewish labor movement in America. He was editor of the Jewish Daily Forward at the time of his death.
