The American military commander in Austria has ?dered the transfer of some 450 displaced Jews from the New Palestine camp at ?lzburg to other camps in the U.S. zone, it was revealed have today. The move was ?dertaken to provide additional quarters for the families of American military personnel on duty in Austria who are new living in what the Army ?ms inadequate quarters.

The Joint Distribution Committee and the Jewish chaplain attached to the U.S. command in Austria and the Jewish Central Committee are cooperating with the Army in the transfer. No objections have been raised by either the DP’s or Jewish voluntary ?lief organizations because there are a sufficient number of vacancies in other camps in the country to provide for the transferred Jewish families.

Special provision will be made for camp inmates who were formerly imprisoned ?n concentration camps. They will be permitted to choose quarters in the larger DP centers or find houses in the Austrian community.
