A top level U.S. military delegation led by Deputy Secretary of Defense William Clements will visit Israel for three days this week as part of a 10-day swing from Tunisia to Iran. The group left Washington yesterday for what was described at the Pentagon as “a first-hand review of Defense Department programs and related issues with host governments and U.S. officials” in those countries.
Group members include Eugene McAuliffe, Assistant Defense Secretary for International Security Affairs, Gen. John R. Dean, Jr., commanding general of the army’s Materiel Development and Readiness Command, and Lt. Gen. Howard Fish, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Security Assistance.
Tunisia is the first country on the itinerary. The group is due to be in Tel Aviv tomorrow through Thursday and then go to Riyadh for a three-day stay in Saudi Arabia. Iran, Bahrein, Yemen and Jordan follow on the itinerary.
