Various Jewish leaders here have united in urging the American Military Government to retain the Department of Jewish Affairs in the Bavarian Government, which the AMG is planning to incorporate into an overall bureau for political persecutees, it was learned here today.
Some of the Jewish leaders expressed the belief that Jewish problems are specialized and require special study and treatment. They also stressed the necessity for having a highly-placed official representing Jewish interests in top governmental circles in order to assure speedy and sympathetic action on Jewish problems.
Military government officials, who support the incorporation plan, are meeting regularly with Jewish leaders in an effort to arrive at a settlement agreeable to all concerned.
