Displaced persons seeking entry to the United States under the DP Act are being hampered by red tape, Arthur Greenleigh, executive director of the United Service for New Americans and spokesman for the advisory council of the U.S. Displaced Persons Commission, charged today following a survey of the refugee situation in Europe by the group.
Mr. Greenleigh said that lack of adequate personnel on the staff of the DP Commission in Europe as well as lack of assurances by American citizens willing to accept responsibility for settling DP’s in the U.S. were holding up the swifter flow of DP immigrants to the United States. Another reason for the delay which Mr. Greenleigh cited was the “over-meticulous screening process” of the U.S. Army Counter-Intelligence Corps.
