U.S. newspapers attempted to assess the significance of the worst terror attack ever to take place on American soil. “A continental United States that was mercifully spared the physical devastation of two world wars is now a place vulnerable to attack,” the Arizona Republic newspaper said Wednesday. “We must grieve for our nation, which has truly lost its innocence,” New York’s Newsday said.
